My work ▸ I Am Korean American
I Am Korean American was a website that featured stories and snapshots of the Korean American experience.
How did it all start? On a Monday morning, I got an email from my former manager with the subject line: “Korean American Bloggers.” In the one-paragraph email, I was tasked with launching I Am Korean American and “getting the word out.”
So, I Googled “Korean American blogger” and emailed every blogger I could find. (I became more creative later on.)
This was my first experience with marketing and audience outreach, and I’m still surprised at how simple it all started. I had so much fun connecting with people from all walks of life and uplifting a vibrant community. It’s the reason why I fell in love with community work.
From 2009 to 2013, I Am Korean American collected more than 460 stories that celebrate the diverse and shared experiences within the Korean American community. The website also received press from various Asian American and South Korean media outlets.
